John Foale has been working like one of Santa’s elves to get the 40 year-old tractor ready for Kingsbridge Christmas Market. And, after two months’ work, the tractor is finally completed. Now, as promised, it’s mechanically sound and looking pristine; ready to make the 1,000 mile journey from John O’Groats to Land’s End.
The Run Tractor carried Father Christmas through the town and passed the stalls of the Christmas Market. It was then sited right at the top of Fore Street, as a buffer against a possible terrorist attack. Nevertheless, there were visitors aplenty. Hundreds of children clambered up onto the tractor to have their photos taken behind the wheel of the soon to become legendary vintage tractor.
There was a cutting wind at the top of town, so John and his chilled helpers were grateful for the hospitality of the ladies of Activities 115 in the building alongside. Activities 115 is a charity which exists to empower the disabled by positive activity. Paulina, Kim and Karen kept the workers supplied with mince pies and mulled wine throughout the day.
The Tractor Run is raising money for the Devon Air Ambulance and, during the run, for seven other air ambulances en route. You can follow The Tractor Run on the website: www.thetractorrun.org.uk
